Collaboration between Kunstnernes Efterårsudstilling (KE) and HFKD

With HFKD, there has been a unique opportunity to experiment with new combination options between a dissemination / exhibition and education for young talents. With the students we already have in the house, we aim to give them a co-ownership of the exhibitions, that will spread to other young people throughout the municipality of Holstebro.

In the 2-year exhibition program of HFKD, it is the ambition to reflect all facets of contemporary art without compromising on quality. An exhibition program that will provide input for young people and lift their curiosity and open ideas and understanding of what contemporary art is. We have a special focus on the younger newly educated artists, as it is a special aim for us to lift this scene and contribute to their visibility.

It was therefore an obvious opportunity to collaborate with the censored Artists’ Autumn Exhibition (Kunstnernes Efterårsudstilling KE), which since 1900 has emphasized the contemporary artscene and given opportunities for artistic talents to exhibit their works.
One of the strengths of KE is that those who administer and censor the exhibition is looking at significant parameters such as quality and originality, rather than insignificant parameters such as name and place of education, and that KE only accepts works that are no more than two years old. It always ensures an exhibition with great variety and a strong picture of what is happening in the present art scene. KE and HFKD share the vision of raising the young art scene, talent development and visibility.

For many of KE’s applicants, the exhibition is their first chance to show works to a larger audience in a professional exhibition context.
As a visual artist, I have always appreciated that works can be displayed several times and conveyed in different contexts. It is a good experience to relate to new frameworks and contribute to the further development of the works.

KE 2017 had a high level and many really qualified works of art, however, there were 2 artists that stood out; Zuhra Hilal and Malene Jorck Heide-Jørgensen. Both artists work with topics that I consider particularly interesting and relevant to our time. In widely different ways, they also discuss topics and practices that relate directly to the context of HFKD as a teaching, dissemination and exhibition house.
